He said there was the need to move away from the traditional ways of collecting revenue for development, which if properly executed, could enhance and accelerate the developmental agenda of the assembly.

Mr Ware said it could help in improving the lives of the people through education, health, sanitation and other social amenities.

He was speaking at the inauguration of 15 Town Council and 14 Unit Committee members at Bibiani in the Western Region.

He said the assembly incurred a loss of GH¢70,000 due to the inability of officers to track and collect revenue within the last seven months.

No politics

Mr Ware cautioned members against their involvement in party politics, and said the development of the area should be the primary motive of each member.

“Through patriotism, sacrifice and hard work, the lives of the citizenry can be improved,” he said.

The DCE reiterated that local governance was key to accelerated development in each assembly and needed to be strengthened.

Inaugural ceremony

The Town Council chairman, Mr Isaac Nkrumah, on behalf of his colleagues, assured the assembly that they were ready to work in tandem with the unit committees.

Chief

The Odikro of Bibiani Estate, Nana Adom Maclean, tasked members to see their election appointment as a big task to serve the people.

He assured the assembly of the traditional council's support in ensuring that the dream of making Bibiani an enviable town came to fruition.
