DWM dismisses media reports

The Board of Directors of the Developing Women for Mobilisation (DWM), formerly 31st December Women’s Movement, has dismissed reports that a congress resolution has been passed at an Extraordinary Congress meeting to elect an Interim Management Committee to manage the affairs of the movement in the interim, among other resolutions.

A statement from the DWM said: “The Board of DWM has not delegated its powers to an Interim Management Committee to manage the affairs of the movement.”

Accordingly, the statement indicated that the Interim Management Committee did not have the power to manage the affairs of the so-called congress.

There are media reports that the Interim Management Committee has also terminated the appointment of the Board Secretary to Caridem Development Company Limited and that the Interim Management Committee has dissolved the Board of Caridem Development Company Limited.

“We wish to draw the attention of the general public to the fact that the DWM is a company limited by guarantee and is governed by the Companies Act 1963, Act 179 and its regulations and that those who convened the meeting of the DWM did not have the authority to call the said meeting and that the said meeting was called and held in violation of the regulations of the company.

Accordingly, the statement said any and all decisions taken at the said meeting “are null and void and are of no effect and that the Board of DWM are the ones responsible for appointing the managers of the Movement and no one else.”
