ER suspends elections of executives in 3 constituencies

 

The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended elections of executive members for three out of the 33 constituencies in the region due to infractions during the recent polling station executives’ election.

The affected constituencies are Atiwa East, Akuapem North and Asene-Manso-Akroso.

The Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Prince Aboagye, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic at Akyem Oda last Sunday.

He said his outfit took the decision in view of the protests and counter protests by some leading members in those constituencies.

Mr Aboagye stressed that the regional secretariat was taking measures to resolve the problems between now and December 23, 2013.

Mr  Aboagye advised all members and supporters of the party to refrain from all negative acts that had the potential of affecting the fortunes of the party in the 2016 general elections.

Meanwhile, the Akyem Oda Constituency of the NPP has elected new executive members to run the party until 2017.

The incumbent Constituency Chairman, Mr Yaw Mintah Debrah, the first vice-chairman, Mr Andrews Abrokwah, the second vice-chairman, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, the secretary, Mr Bismark Delali Tsaley and his assistant, Mr Benjamin Baidoo, were retained unopposed.

In the competitive elections, Mr David Okyere, an Oda–based businessman, secured 189 out of the 319 votes cast to defeat his two challengers, Mr Emmanuel Ohene Ettuah, a trader and Mr Castro Asumadu Addae, a teacher, who secured 95 and 35 votes, respectively to become the constituency organiser.

Ms Victoria Adu, a teacher retained her position as the women’s organiser when she beat her challenger, Ms Stella Kumi by 263 votes to 62.

New entrant, Mr Aaron Donkor, a teacher, defeated the incumbent youth organiser, Mr Edward Ofori by 192 votes to 126, while Ms Victoria Oforiwaa, a decorator became the treasurer when she beat the incumbent treasurer by 194 votes to 121.

The Birim Central Electoral Officer, Mr John Appiah Baffoe, supervised the polls.

The Member of Parliament for Oda, Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo, commended both the victors and the losing candidates, as well as the entire NPP members and supporters in the constituency for comporting themselves during the polls.

He, however, urged them to work hard for the NPP to win the 2016 general elections.
