Former Council of State member dies

A former Member of the Council of State under the Kufuor government and leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Francis Asianab Afoko, has been buried according to Builsa royal tradition.

Asianab Afoko, father of the National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Paul Afoko, had been battling old age health problems. He was 90.

His sudden demise occurred at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was rushed to on Sunday, August 2, after suffering from a protracted illness.

Asianab Afoko was the Upper East representative on the Council of State for the two terms of President Kufuor’s administration from 2001 to 2008.

The NPP National Chairman, Mr Afoko, when contacted, would not confirm the loss of his father but explained that the family was abiding by the tradition and customs and would announce any such development officially.
