GCPP to cause a stir in 2016 — Amekah

The Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) has said it will ‘cause a stir’ in the 2016 general election, as it is working tirelessly around the clock to attract more votes.

The 2012 Vice-Presidential Candidate of the party, Mr John Amekah, who made this known to the Daily Graphic in an interview in Accra, said Ghanaians were tired of the monopoly of being governed by two political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), since the Fourth Republican Constitution came into effect in 1992.

“Both parties have not brought any change in the economic lifestyle of Ghanaians and Ghanaians must be ready to change the two parties in 2016,” he said.

Wind of change

According to Mr Amekah, the GCPP was the only party that could bring the change Ghanaians were anxiously waiting for, adding, “We won’t pay lip-service, but see to it that the lives of Ghanaians are changed and their problems addressed.”

He said the confusion and ongoing brawl between the two parties was an indication that none of them was ready to win the 2016 elections.

“Unlike the two main political parties in Ghana, the GCPP will not make noise about its plans and strategies; rather, we will focus on strengthening our structures to build a formidable force to garner more votes in the next election,” he said.

Mr Amekah said the GCPP had all that it took to govern the nation. He said the party had good and formidable leadership that could wrest power from the NDC, as well as representatives in all 275 constituencies.

Domestication

The vice-presidential candidate reaffirmed the party’s stance on the concept of domestication which, he said, would help in improving the living standards of the average Ghanaian.

He explained that domestication would increase export instead of depending largely on importation, noting that agriculture would be promoted to produce raw materials to feed the agro industry.

That, he said, would enable them to create the enabling environment for export, which would in turn create more jobs for Ghanaians.

GCPP delegates congress

As part of preparation towards capturing the seat of government in 2016, Mr Amekah said the party had put in place the necessary structures to organise its national delegates congress in Kumasi.

Unlike the hullaballoo that surrounded the national delegates congress of the NPP, he said the GCPP had built strong mechanisms that would address grievances promptly and quickly should they occur in the course of the party’s elections.
