63 NPP MPs declare support for Bawumia’s flagbearership bid

Sixty-three Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have officially declared their support for former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party as its next flagbearer.

They described Dr Bawumia as a visionary and transformational leader who embodies the enduring values of the NPP’s founding fathers.

At a press conference in Parliament last Thursday, the NPP MP for Mampong, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, said Dr Bawumia represented the enduring spirit of the NPP, characterised by vision, resilience, diligence and pragmatism.

He praised his leadership as one grounded in results rather than rhetoric, noting his role in driving the country’s digital transformation, promoting financial inclusion and modernising public service delivery.

“From his days as a brilliant economist at the Bank of Ghana to his service as Vice-President, Dr Bawumia has proven that leadership is not about words but work, not about entitlement but excellence and delivery,” Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong said.

Deep conviction

He said their declaration of support was not based on sentiment but on deep conviction, citing Dr Bawumia’s discipline, hard work and readiness to serve.

He expressed confidence that he possessed the competence and unity-building qualities required to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 general elections and beyond.

“We affirm that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not just the candidate who can unite our party; he is the leader who can win the confidence of the Ghanaian people and secure victory for the NPP in 2028 and beyond,” he stated.

Symbol of renewal

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong described Dr Bawumia as the symbol of renewal, capable of bridging generations and inspiring hope in the party and the nation at large.

They further called on NPP delegates across the country to support him, emphasising his loyalty, humility and consistent record of service.

“Let us reward loyalty, humility and hard work with trust.

Let us renew the NPP tradition with a leader who represents continuity with innovation,” he urged.

“Dr Bawumia carried Danquah’s courage, Busia’s intellect and Dombo’s humility and unifying heart.

He is the man to lead Ghana into a new era of progress, opportunity and national pride,” he said.
