The Convention People's Party (CPP) has welcomed the reinstatement of July 1 as Republic Day and September 21 as Founder's Day.
The party expressed its gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government and the Ninth Parliament for this move.
The CPP, in a statement signed and issued by its Chairperson and Leader, Wing Commander (Rtd) Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor, expressed the party’s gratitude for the restoration of the dates.
It said July 1, 1960, marked Ghana's transition to a republic, with Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah as its first President, while September 21, 1909, was the birthdate of the nation's founder.

“The Convention People’s Party, on behalf of Nkrumaists worldwide, expresses its sincere thanks to the President of Ghana, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress Government and the Honourable Parliamentarians of the Ninth Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, for this enactment,” the statement said.
