CPP must unite for victory — CPP elder
An elder of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Robert Okyere Frimpong-Manso, has called for the infighting in the party to stop to boost the party’s fortunes in the 2020 elections.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, he said the CPP must be a united front to reposition itself to bring hope to Ghanaians.
“Ghana really needs a strong CPP to save them from the bad governance the NDC and the NPP have been offering the country,” he said.

He has accordingly appealed to the Chairman of the CPP Legal and Constitutional Committee, Mr Bright Akwetey, to withdraw a legal action he filed against the party for internal settlement
According to him, the case should be withdrawn and brought to the Council of Elders to resolve the differences since the issue was an in-house matter.
The early resolution of the dispute, he said, would enable the party reorganise properly for the 2020 general election in December.
Infighting
The CPP on February 28, 2020, suspended the filing of nominations and all other activities towards its March 28 National Delegates Congress of the party due to a court injunction.
This was as a result of a writ of summons filed on Feb 26, 2020 at the High Court by Messrs Bright Akwetey and Yaw Asamoah against Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, acting National Chairperson; Mr James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr., acting General Secretary and the CPP.
The central committee of the party opened nominations from February 6 and it was expected to end on Friday, February 28.

The party also fixed Friday, March 27 and Saturday 28 for National Delegates Congress at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to elect both national leaders and a flag bearer for election 2020.
Infrastructure
Mr Frimpong-Manso said no government had matched the massive infrastructure projects undertaken by the CPP within the nine-year rule of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Rather, he said successive governments had ran almost all the projects down the drain.
He mentioned the Tema Food Complex; the State Construction Corporation (SCC); the State Fishing Corporation; the Takoradi Paper Mill; Amrahia Dairy, the Aveyime Cattle Ranch; the Kade Match Factory; the Tema Steel Works; the Kumasi Jute Factory; the Kumasi Shoe Factory; the Pwallugu Tomato Factory and the Nsawam Cannery among many other projects.

Mr Frimpong-Manso said the COVID-19 pandemic could help the country to be self-reliant or self- supporting but said it was the CPP which had the understanding to make it work effectively.
He, therefore, reiterated the need for the litigants to set aside any differences and help to position the party for the task of winning election 2020.
That, he said, could only be possible if the party was able to reorganise itself now.
