Ghana enters new era of hope and renewal — Opong-Fosu

A Governance and public policy analyst, Akwasi Opong-Fosu, has stated that the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to restore hope, integrity and progress serves as a beacon for all Ghanaians.

He said their successful inauguration on January 7, 2025, marked the dawn of a new era in Ghana.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic last Tuesday, Mr Opong-Fosu commended the President and Vice-President for their exemplary leadership and dedication to spearheading Ghana's rebirth.

Rebirth

To achieve the rebirth, Mr Opong-Fosu stressed the need to reclaim Ghana's national values, including integrity, transparency and accountability.

He also called for institutional reforms, ethical leadership and a return to servant leadership.

“Each one of us has a role to play in this journey. Let us harness our unity, determination and shared vision to build a nation we can all take pride in—a Ghana that stands as a model of progress and integrity across Africa and beyond,” he said.

Mr Opong-Fosu, who is also a former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, acknowledged that Ghana had faced numerous challenges in recent years, including economic hardships, leadership lapses, and erosion of public trust in institutions.

He was, however, optimistic that the country could rise from the ashes, just like the mythical Phoenix.

“The symbolism of the Phoenix rising from ashes resonates profoundly with Ghana’s journey. Just as the mythical bird emerges reborn from destruction, our nation, through resilience and perseverance, embarks on a path of renewal.

Over the past years, Ghana has faced a series of trials that tested the very fabric of our society—economic hardships, leadership lapses and erosion of public trust in our institutions,” he said.

Economic agenda

Mr Opong-Fosu advocated a bold economic agenda that prioritised entrepreneurship, innovation and industrialisation.

He emphasised the importance of inclusivity, education and skills development in unlocking Ghana's vast potential.

Mr Opong-Fosu also urged all Ghanaians to harness their unity, determination, and shared vision to build a nation they could be proud of.

He stressed that Ghana's renewal would be the product of collective effort, perseverance and unwavering belief in the country's strength.
