Govt committed to robust decentralisation — IMCC Executive Secretary
The Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee (IMCC) on Decentralisation, Dr Gameli Kewuribe Hoedoafia, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to revitalise the country's decentralisation agenda.
He emphasised the government’s goal of creating a "robust, forward-looking, and responsive decentralisation policy" grounded in evidence and stakeholder input.
Dr Hoedoafia was speaking at the final sub-national level stakeholder consultations on the formulation of the National Decentralisation Policy and Strategy for 2025-2029 in Kumasi last Monday.
The sub-national level consultations, which began on May 26, 2025, in Cape Coast, brought together key stakeholders from across the country, including Regional Coordinating Directors, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Coordinating Director, Budget Officers, Planning Officers, Agricultural Officers, Health Directors, Education Directors, CSOs, PWDs from Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as traditional authorities.
The 16 regions were divided into four zones, with workshops held in Cape Coast, Ho, Tamale and concluded in Kumasi.
Next steps
Dr Hoedoafia described the zonal consultations as useful events that provided inputs to enrich the national policy.
He announced that plans were underway to organise a National Policy Dialogue on decentralisation to broaden perspectives to shape the country's decentralisation journey.
That, Dr Hoedoafia said, was to create a robust and responsive decentralisation policy that would promote inclusive development and effective governance at the local level.
