NDC Thank You tour: We’re committed to fulfilling campaign promises — Asiedu Nketiah

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has assured the electorate that the party remains committed to fulfilling its campaign promises following its victory in the 2024 general election.

He said that although challenges inherited upon assuming office were significant, the government under President John Dramani Mahama had begun taking steps to stabilise the country and improve living conditions.

Speaking at Nsuta Kwamang Beposo during the first day of his Ashanti Regional “Thank You Tour,” last Wednesday, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said the NDC would not abandon the pledges it made to the people and traditional authorities in the region.

He pointed to ongoing development initiatives, including projects in education and water supply, as early signs of progress, noting that such achievements were being recognised even by some opposition supporters.

He explained that the tour was not only to express gratitude but also to begin a process of accountability, in which the party would regularly assess its performance against its promises to Ghanaians.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah acknowledged the broad-based support the NDC received during the election, explaining that many Ghanaians—across political divides—were concerned about the country's direction and rallied behind the party to effect change.

Exclusive strong

Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated that the Ashanti Region could no longer be considered the New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s exclusive stronghold, following the NDC’s improved performance in the 2024 general election.

He said the party’s electoral gains in the region signalled a major political shift, explaining that the party had historically struggled to make significant inroads in the Ashanti Region.

He, however, said the party took a deliberate decision ahead of the 2024 election to intensify its presence across all districts in the region, which paid off, as the NDC expanded its reach and significantly increased its vote share, attaining nearly 35 per cent of total votes.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah said the 2024 election results demonstrated growing acceptance of the NDC within Asanteman and underscored the region’s importance in determining national electoral outcomes.

He said the NDC’s renewed engagement with the region would be sustained, likening the party’s relationship with Ashanti voters to a long-term commitment that required continuous attention and presence.

Good signs

The Chief of Nsuta, Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere, noted that the early signs of governance under President Mahama had inspired confidence among residents of the area with visible improvements in infrastructure, particularly ongoing work on the Nsuta–Kwamang road.

He observed that the presence of road construction equipment and machinery on site had brought relief to residents, describing it as a clear indication that the government was responding to long-standing concerns in the area.

He, however, urged the government to prioritise the rehabilitation of such key roads, reminding the NDC of its campaign commitments to the people of the area and expressing confidence that those promises would be fulfilled.
