Okoe Boye, Anyars congratulate winners
Two defeated New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates have congratulated the candidates who defeated them in the December 7, 2020, elections.
Dr Bernard Okoe Boye stood for re-election at Ledzokuku and Dr Ibrahim Anyars, who contested the Tamale seat, both lost out to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates of Mr Ben Ayiku and Mr Ibrahim Mutala Mohammed, respectively.
In the just ended parliamentary election, Dr Okoe Boye polled 54,072 votes while the winner, Mr Ayiku, had 55,938 votes. The other two candidates, Mr Lord Adjetey of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) garnered 674 while Ms Lucky Mensah of the National Democratic Party (NDP) had 137 votes.

In the case of Dr Anyars, he obtained 33,627 votes but that was not enough to beat the NDC’s Mr Mohammed, who had 41,196 while the People’s National Convention (PNC) candidate, Mr Abdul-Karim polled 179.

In a statement, Dr Okoe Boye also expressed appreciation to his constituents for giving him the opportunity to serve them for the past four years.
While thanking God too, Dr Okoe Boye urged Ghanaians to help build the country together with or without political office for “it is our efforts now that will create the Ghana we desire for our children and children’s children”.

For his part, Dr Anyars, who is the Chief Executive of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), also commended the People’s National Convention (PNC) candidate, Mr Mubarik Abdul-Karim, for participating in the democratic process to elect an MP for the constituency.
Outcome
In a statement after the declaration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr Mohammed, as the winner, Dr Anyars said the NPP was hopeful that the constituency would choose a path of development by electing him as the MP.
It said the party rather felt disappointed at the outcome.

“The Tamale Central people have spoken, and we respect the democratic system,” it stated.
Peace
It said as he went round the various polling stations last Monday, he saw the enthusiasm of voters to exercise their civic rights.
He said he took satisfaction in the fact that the electorate gave their very best to support a peaceful election.
“The atmosphere of peace in the constituency is once again a demonstration of my commitment to peaceful elections. For the second time in the history of Tamale Central Constituency, we had a peaceful election,” it said.

Appreciation
He expressed appreciation to all the party faithful, friends, family, colleagues, and many volunteers who came forward to assist with the campaign
“Many of you spent precious time and resources contributing to the campaign, and I sincerely thank each of you.
“I am deeply moved by the expression of confidence from all 18 electoral areas, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” it said.
