President gets positive approval rating: NPP prefers Bawumia for 2028 elections - Global InfoAnalytics polls reveal
A national tracking poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed a positive approval rating for President John Dramani Mahama’s government, with 62 per cent of respondents saying the country is headed in the right direction.
Only 26 per cent disapproved of the government’s performance in the first three months of its administration, with 12 per cent of respondents declaring no opinion on the subject.
The positive approval rating for President Mahama is a sharp contrast to a similar poll in October 2024 when only 31 per cent approved of the direction of the country when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was President, with 62 per cent disapproving of his administration’s performance at the time.
Results
The research work is the first national tracking poll by Global InfoAnalytics since the 2024 general election that brought President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to power in addition to an overwhelming majority of 183 seats in Parliament.
The poll results, released last Wednesday, showed a national agreement on President Mahama’s approval ratings at the regional level, with only the Ashanti Region showing a negative approval rating for the President’s work.
Indeed, while 39 per cent of voters in the Ashanti Region said the country is headed in the right direction, 53 per cent said it is headed in the wrong direction, with eight per cent saying they had no opinions.
“On the performance of the government as a whole, 21 per cent rate it as excellent, 55 per cent as very good/good, 9 per cent rate it as average and 15 per cent rate it as poor/very poor,” a portion of the executive summary of the poll outcome stated.
NPP
In the race for the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2028, the poll shows Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the clear front-runner to lead the party again if delegates of the party were to elect the party’s flag bearer.
“Dr Bawumia attracts 48 per cent of the votes, while Kennedy Agyapong attracts 25 per cent, Dr Osei Adutwum, 13 per cent and the rest of the candidates are on 14 per cent.
Among NPP delegates, Dr Bawumia attracts 57 per cent, Kennedy Agyapong, 22 per cent and Osei Adutwum, 11 per cent,” the poll indicated
