Give us new DCE ; Wungu-Naa appeals to Prez

The Chief of Wungu, Naa Alhaji Sulemana Siaka, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, to as a matter of urgency, appoint a new District Chief Executive  (DCE) for the West Mamprusi District in the Northern Region.

The President last year sacked the DCE for the area Mr Adam Banabelsera Yussif. He later nominated a former MP for the Area, Iddrisu Alidu Zakaria for the position, but he was rejected by the assembly in November last year.

The Wungu-Naa, who made the appeal during a courtesy call on him at his palace at Wungu in the West Mamprusi District by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Julius Debrah, also entreated the youth of the area to desist from protesting against the President’s nominee for the position.

According to the Wungu-Naa, the absence of a DCE for the area was seriously hampering the speedy development of the area and therefore asked the youth to accept and support anybody who would be given the position.

Mr Debrah, who was accompanied by the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, is in the region to solicit the support of the various paramount chiefs for the National Sanitation Day to be hosted by the region on Saturday, February 7, 2015. He will also inspect development projects funded by the district assemblies in the region.

The Wungu-Naa further appealed for the tarring of the road leading to the Wungu Traditional Area as well as a facelift of the road network in the district.

He also appealed for tractors to support farmers to plough farms ahead of the major rainy season to reduce the cost of hiring tractors for that purpose.

The Wungu-Naa called for the provision of places of convenience  and other sanitation facilities in the community to improve on sanitation and personal hygiene.

Mr Debrah, in response to the requests of the chief, said he would convey the message to the President but was quick to add that the appointment of DCEs was the sole prerogative of the President.

He disclosed that the government had imported 200 tractors into the country and their request for tractors would be considered.

Mr Debrah pledged that the district would be provided with boreholes and toilets to improve on their personal hygiene and sanitation.
