The Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Pascal Lamptey, has urged media practitioners within the municipality to partner the assembly in its drive to enhance revenue generation towards internal self-sufficiency.

The purpose, he said, was to tap the abundant potential of the municipality in the envisioned goal to reduce its dependency on the central government.

Mr Lamptey said this when he interacted with staff of the various radio stations in the municipality as part of the assembly's agenda to build effective partnership with key stakeholders towards the development of the area.

The role of the media as catalysts for development, he said, must be brought to bear on the area in a manner that would bring great relief to the people of the Ketu municipality.

He announced that as part of measures to tap the unused potential of the area, a valuer had been contracted by the assembly to value all fixed properties in the area towards the institution of property rates.

He expects the media to educate and inform the people of the area on the new development path being pursued by the assembly to raise the standard of living of the people.

This task, Mr Lamptey stressed, could not be left alone on the shoulders of the central government.

"We need to priorities our development needs as a people, look for options that will help our cause and invest our own energies in reaching those ends rather than relying on external sources," he emphasised.

“No one can help us better than ourselves" he said and added that the path being pursued would not in anyway absolve the central government from doing what was expected but the people’s input will speed up the rate of development in line with the expectations of the people.

Mr Lamptey also made an appeal to the media to help with the provision of free airtime to educate the public on the property naming and address system, saying that when executed properly, the project will not only enhance the ease of locating places but will also augment revenue generation moves.

He gave an assurance that his outfit was pursuing an open door policy, which should encourage the media to approach him and others in the assembly with the relevant feedback, questions and clarifications to create an open platform for fruitful deliberations.

The Ketu south Municipal Director, Mr Godwin Djansi, indicated that the media had assisted the assembly in the past and was, therefore, confident that they stood a better chance of stepping up their output with the laying bare of the vision of the chief executive for the area.

He entreated the media to be guided by the ethics of the professional so as to ensure that their input dovetailed well into the holistic programming of national development.

Media persons present sought clarification of future plans to enhance mutual relations. They were that the plans of the assembly, as explained by the chief executive, would not be part of "the usual political gimmicks"  they had experienced in the past.

They also pledged their support for the corporate good of the Ketu South Municipality.
