Kufuor honoured by MEF
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been honoured for his continuous contribution towards the development of Ghana and the African continent.

The Ex-President received the award for his statesmanship and for playing a pivotal role in promoting peace and stability across the continent even after his tenure of office.
He was awarded by the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF), organisers of the Millennium Excellence Awards (MEA) at his residence in Accra last Tuesday.
He was presented with a plaque, a trophy, a citation and certificate signed by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Life Patron and Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, the President of the MEA.
MEA recognition
The MEA, which recognises the contribution of outstanding personalities who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavours both in Ghana and the diaspora, is held every five years.
In December last year, 15 individuals, as well as organisations, including former President Kufuor, were awarded during the MEA, but he could not attend the programme because he was in France for the global climate change conference.
Presenting the award, Mr Gbeho stated that the foundation recognised the former President for promoting peace and stability on the African Continent and across the globe.
“Former President Kufuor’s achievements for the country and the continent, especially in democracy during his tenure are recognised globally. And we as a foundation are encouraged to honour him for all these,” he said.

He also congratulated Mr Kufuor and urged him to continue in his good works for the nation and humanity in general.
Kufuor and integrity
Speaking on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Chief of Staff of the Manhyia Palace, Mr Kofi Badu, emphasised that the renowned statesman brought integrity to his office, and even afterwards, continued to pursue that in everything he did.
Mr Badu indicated that the foundation took into cognisance the sacrifices made by people such as the former president for the development of the nation, “and deemed it fit to reward him while he lives.”
Extolling the contributions of the ex-President, Mr Badu noted that he (Kufuor) had devoted his life to the service of humankind and was recognised globally.
That, he said, ought to serve as a source of inspiration for many Ghanaians, especially the youth, to emulate.
Mr Gbeho and Mr Badu were accompanied by the Chairman of the MEF, Mr Ashim Morton, the Governors, Dr Mrs Ellen Hagan and Dr William Brandful; the Directors, Mr Moses Baiden and Mrs Jane Attoh, and some honorary prize recipients, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Dr Alhaji Adamu Iddrisu and Mr William Aboah.
Appreciation by Kufuor
Showing appreciation for the award, the ex-President said he was pleased for the honour done him, by such a body which had international recognition.
According to him, he saw the award as a feather in his cap, and one that would urge him on to do more for humanity.
He also expressed appreciation to Ghanaians for giving him the opportunity to serve humanity.
“I see the service to Africans as a privilege and opportunity to treat them with respect and humility.
“As Africans we must do our best to serve with humility and respect and not abuse anyone,” he added.
