Mr Mawutor Agbavitor, an investment management consultant, has stressed the need for a rebranding of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region.

That, he said, was the surest way to retain the trust and confidence of the party’s grass-roots support base and to also win the minds and hearts of young and first-time voters in the region.

Mr Agbavitor, who is one of the front runners in the race for the chairmanship of the party in the region, made the remarks in an interview in Accra on Tuesday.  This was after his tour of parts of the Volta Region to seek support for his bid.

He observed that the party faced some fundamental problems in the region, noting that the running and organisation of the party as it currently was, needed to be improved upon to avoid the opposition parties manipulating the situation to their advantage.

The aspiring chairman stated that he, as a contender was bringing on board, dynamism, fresh ideas, the requisite knowledge, capabilities and skills to give the party a renewed energy.

This would also make the party attractive to roll back the steady progress the New Patroitic Party (NPP) had made in the region since 1992.

Mr Agbavitor indicated that when he became the regional party chairman, he would relentlessly pursue as an  objective  unity,   grass-roots mobilisation and economic empowerment, as well as consultation, co-operation and effective collaboration with the relevant stakeholders, especially with MPs and ministers from the region, in the running of the affairs of the party.

In his view, now is the time to adopt new approaches with relevant strategies to strengthen the party’s structures at all levels in the region.

“The old methods of party organisation would simply not work again; we need to work hard to ensure a big win in the 2016 elections for the NDC,” he stressed.
