Mahama did not sack Nunoo Mensah - Stan Dogbe

Mr Stan Dogbe has denied claims by Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah that former President John Mahama sacked him as National Security Adviser because he was being too candid in his dealings as head of security.

Mr Stan Dogbe who served as Director of Communications under President Mahama in a Facebook Monday night stated there were "some obvious inaccuracies in statements made by General Nunoo Mensah (Rtd.) in his recent and widely published interview that needs to be corrected."

"I believe that we must not let emotions cloud the facts of history because of one's antipathy towards a particular personality. It is the retired General's right to canvass for any person to lead the NDC, but the facts of history must remain sacred.

"President Mahama did not sack the General because he speaks the truth. President Mahama did not replace him with Ambassador Baba Kamara," Stan Dogbe wrote on Facebook.

Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah in a radio interview with Takoradi-based Radio 360 had questioned: "How do you replace me; someone, who trained at Sandhurst with Baba Kamara because you say I speak the truth?”

“So if President Mills chose me as the first of appointees for telling the truth, I will never lie in my life, I have never lied in my life”, he stated.

According to him, all the eleven people seeking to lead the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the 2020 polls including former President John Mahama are not truthful, a report by Mynewsgh quoted him as saying.

“There is none like me in there who speaks the truth. I support Kojo Yankah 101 per cent in advising former President Mahama not to run again. …His supporters can attack me also like they are doing to Kojo Yankah”, he told radio host.

On the performance of the current administration, he said “I am not impressed by anything; young people finish school roaming the streets and there is no job, you can see desperation in their eyes, you can see pressure; I have not been impressed by the NDC and the NPP in the last 25years”, he observed.

Facts are sacred!

There are some obvious inaccuracies in statements made by General Nunoo Mensah (Rtd.) in his recent and widely published interview that needs to be corrected.

The retired military general was National Security Advisor (NSA) to President John Evans Atta Mills and continued as such for the unexpired term of the late President under President John Dramani Mahama till they, like all other political appointees, exited Government on January 06, 2013.

He was, like many of us, handed a thank you letter for his service to the government and country and signed by the then outgoing president. Obviously no appointee has an automatic carry over just because the same party (NDC) won the elections?

Maybe Information Minister Mahama Ayariga and after him, Edward Omane Boamah can help me here, because unless my memory is failing me, President Mahama after he was sworn into office in January 2013, appointed the highly respected intelligence chief, William Aboah as his first National Security Advisor (NSA). The retired General Nunoo Mensah was then appointed as Coordinator for Human Security. It can therefore not be true that he was sacked and replaced by Ambassador Baba Kamara.

After the Naa Ayele cocaine case, WK Aboah was shifted from NSA to chair NACOB in order to strenghten the anti drug fight. Only then was Ambassador Baba Kamara shifted from his position as Advisor Special duties to NSA.

I believe that we must not let emotions cloud the facts of history because of one's antipathy towards a particular personality. It is the retired General's right to canvass for any person to lead the NDC, but the facts of history must remain sacred.
