NCCE denies owning NDC branded Mahindra vehicles

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has denied owning the Mahindra vehicles said to have been branded with the colours of the National Democratic Congress to support the governing political party’s campaign for this year’s election.

“The Commission has no connection to the said vehicles. We urge the media and all political parties to desist from drawing the NCCE into any partisan brawling,” a statement from the NCCE issued on Wednesday said.

This followed the arrest of the Managing Director of Marbles and Granites, a quarry company from whose offices pictures of the said vehicles were said to have been taken and circulated on social media with the explanation that the vehicles belonged to the NCCE and had been branded to support NDC's campaign.

The Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operation for the NCCE, Samuel Akuamoah in an interview with Accra based Joy FM said the NCCE has “never used Mahindra vehicles in the operation of its duties.”

He said the Commission does not ask the government for vehicles to perform its duties and has records to prove that it has not used Mahindra vehicles ever in its history.

“If it is true that they belong to us and there is proper documentation to prove that, then maybe there is a kind donor somewhere who wants to donate them to us and maybe they have found their ways somewhere else, we don’t know,” Mr. Akuamoah said.

He said although the Commission has a gap in logistics, it has enough to mobilize to do its work ahead of this year’s election.

When asked if the commission has made a request for vehicles, he said the budget for the Commission for this year has been approved by the Finance Committee of Parliament.

“We have a funding gap which we have made a further request for but it is yet to be approved so I don’t know where this is coming from,” Mr Akuamoah noted.
