NPP Communications Director vows to reform Ghana's healthcare system after near-death experience

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has pledged to advocate for a people-centered, outcome-driven health policy in Ghana, following his recovery at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) from a harrowing near-death experience.

Mr. Ahiagbah was involved in a serious accident on Saturday, July 27, while traveling to Kumasi for a party event. The incident occurred on the Kumasi-Accra highway near Aduapompo.

After receiving treatment at KATH, Mr. Ahiagbah was discharged on Friday, August 16. Reflecting on his experience, he took to social media to express gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for him.

"I am out of the hospital today with a few more knots to untie, but I am back on my feet again," Mr. Ahiagbah wrote. "Thank God almighty, and thank you all for your prayers and support. To the dedicated team led by Dr. Charles K. Dally, the catalyst; Dr. Otu Boateng, the signature man; Dr. Roland Azorliade, the wise one; and Professor Peter Ambe, the latter-day addition to the team, and the host of nurses, I say God bless you for doctoring and nursing me back onto my feet."

He also praised the leadership at KATH, particularly the dynamic Prof. Addai-Mensah, and committed to supporting the hospital’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare outcomes for Ghanaians.

"Fighting to hold on to dear life at KATH has been very frightening and painful," Ahiagbah shared. "But through it all, I have learned firsthand the extreme deficiencies and prospects of Ghana’s healthcare delivery system. From this experience will arise a Turning Point Foundation to promote a people-centered, outcome-driven health policy regime in Ghana. May God bless and deliver us all from evil."
