NPP expresses concern about Special Voting

The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Sam Pyne has raised concern over some of the missing names on the voters register for today’s Special Voting.

He suspects foul play and has alleged that it may be a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise the affected people.

Mr Pyne alleges that his careful analysis of persons who could not find their names on the register showed that they all bore Akan names.

This, he said, raised his suspicion that it could have been a deliberate ploy to deny the affected persons their right to exercise their franchise.

However, Mr Raymond Tandoh, the Ashanti regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), disagrees with him.

He says the NDC has also observed similar anomalies of people not finding their names on the register at the polling stations where they were supposed to vote but did not adduce any ill motive on the part of anyone.

He said the issue could have been a genuine mistake on the part of the Electoral Commission and that it was too early for anyone to read meanings into it.

The two were sharing their observations on the special voting on a local radio station in Kumasi.

Notwithstanding the missing names on the register, the two agreed that the exercise has so far been peaceful and smooth.
