The party also urged Muslims to rededicate themselves to the service of Allah and humanity.
In a statement signed by the Nasara National Co-ordinator, Mr Kamal-deen Abdulai, to usher in the holy month of Ramadan, it further called on Muslims to use the period to pray for Ghana. The statement, issued on behalf of the Nasara wing of the NPP, congratulated all Muslims in Ghana and those over the world.

Crescent moon

According to the NPP statement, the Crescent moon was sighted on Wednesday night to mark the beginning of the holy Month of Ramadan.

He reminded Muslims that as they observed the sacred month of fasting and prayer decreed by Allah in the Holy Quran that "O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed upon you as it was prescribed on those before you so that you may learn self-restraint" Quran 2:183,’’ they should remember it was a time to strive in fortitude and be modest towards the Maker for forgiveness.
The statement also urged for national unity “as we refrain from food and drinks from dawn till dusk for 29 or 30 days.”

According to the statement, beyond the abstinence from food and drinks, Muslims equally owed it to themselves in resolving to make sacrifices and eschew vices which might slow down the peace, progress and unity needed for national development.

“Today I join with the over 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide in welcoming this blessed month. May Allah accept our prayer and fasting,’’ the statement signed by Mr Abdulai concluded.
