NPP on much stronger and united path after constitutional review - Bryan Acheampong

Abetifi MP and 028 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has lauded the party’s recent constitutional amendments as a critical step toward renewal and unity.

In a Facebook post following the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, Acheampong described the event as a pivotal moment for the party’s future.

“It was a good day for our great Party,” he wrote. “At the National Conference, we took important steps to amend our constitution; an essential part of our ongoing renewal. These decisions reflect our collective will to build a stronger, more united NPP.”

Acheampong’s statement comes after delegates rejected two contentious proposals—one seeking to lower the party’s youth age limit from 40 to 35 and another aiming to shift oversight of grassroots elections from constituency to regional executives.

Despite these rejections, the conference approved a major expansion of the Electoral College for the party’s 2028 presidential primaries, a move expected to deepen internal democracy.

The Abetifi MP, who has previously declared his interest in leading the NPP in 2028, struck an optimistic tone, acknowledging challenges ahead but emphasizing unity as the party’s anchor. “The road ahead won’t be without its challenges,” he noted, “but with unity, purpose, and vision, we will come back stronger!”

The conference, themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” was the NPP’s first major gathering since its 2024 election defeat. Over 5,000 delegates debated 56 motions, with the expanded Electoral College emerging as the most significant change.

The new structure includes grassroots executives, past leaders, MPs, MMDCEs, and TESCON representatives, broadening participation in the flagbearer selection process.
