Parliament mourns Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey

Parliament has paid tribute to the late immediate past National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Jake Obestebi-Lamptey.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Ms Kate Addo, the law making –body described Mr Obestebi-Lamptey as a “fallen hero”, who advocated peace and unity in all of his endeavours.

“When political tensions would arise, Jake always had ways of explaining to everyone that we are one people with a common destiny that happen to have different political views and, therefore, there was no need to antagonise each other,’’ it said.

The statement said that even though the former National Chairman of the NPP was passionate about his views, he always expressed them  by using decorous language.

“He had a deep belief in God and always prefixed his sentences with the phrase, ‘Isha Allah,’ ” the statement added.

With regard to his relationship with Parliament, the statement said Mr Obetsebi –Lamptey, by virtue of the various ministerial positions that he held, participated in many debates and answered numerous questions on the floor of the House, adding that “his anecdotes were always witty and left one with a smile long after he was gone.’’

“The Rt. Hon Speaker, Edward Kobly Doh Adjaho, the leadership and the entire membership of the House wish to commiserate with the family of the late Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey,” it said.
