Parties, stakeholders laud peaceful registration at Bosomtwe

The Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti region has registered a total of 45,637 voters from across the entire district during the first three phases of the new voters registration exercise.

Of the number, there are 19,943 males and 25,694 females.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, Mrs Ernestina Owusu-Banahene, Bosomtwe District Electoral Officer, was happy for the peaceful manner in which the exercise was going on in the district.

She also lauded the various stakeholders in the exercise for their roles and contribution towards the successful exercise to date and hoped that the remaining two phases would continue in the same peaceful way.

Background
The Bosomtwe District has over the past years remained peaceful during registration exercises and elections, with this year’s registration exercise being no exception.

The District has a total of 35 electoral areas and 141 polling centers.

Observation
The Bosomtwe constituency chairman for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Dickson Manu, and Mr. Aikens Addae Poku, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency chairman, at separate interviews were happy with the current state of the exercise in the constituency.

They also commended the various stakeholders for their roles.
Mr. Addae Poku, particularly lauded some well-meaning residents in the constituency who on their own have been assisting the registration officials and the party agents in various forms.

This, according to him was a sign of patriotism and also an exhibition of civic responsibilities all geared towards the deepening of the nation’s democracy.

Mr. Dickson Manu pledged his party’s readiness to continue to support efforts to ensure that the exercise was undertaken in peace for the good of the nation.

The NDC constituency chairman commended the staff of the Electoral Commission for their performance so far and urged them to continue to work hard to ensure that no person was deprived of his/her right to be registered.

Observation
During a visit to many of the registration centres across the district, social distancing was observed in all the registration centers, with veronica buckets and the use of hand sanitizers at all the registration centers visited visibly on display.

At Asisriwa, Jachie, Aputuogya, Esreso and other communities visited by Daily Graphic, there were large numbers of people anxiously waiting to be registered.

Although all the registrants and other people spotted at the various registration centres had nose masks, some had lowered their masks to their chin.
