At a ceremony attended by the Flag bearer of the party, Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama, the Chairman, Mr Bernard Mornah, some national, regional, constituency as well as party delegates, Mr Adeenze Agaabil from the Office of the Upper East Regional  Electoral Commission confirmed Mr Azong as the candidate.

He said as at the close of nominations on March 20, 2016, only Mr Azong had filed his nominations to contest as a parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the PNC in the Builsa South Constituency and there was no opposition or objections to his nomination and per the electoral laws he needed only to be confirmed.

Addressing the gathering after his confirmation, Mr Azong said parliamentary elections in the Builsa South constituency were about results-based leadership, commitment, selfless and dedicated service and not about lies and empty promises.

He said some aspirants were peddling lies and making empty promises in their bid to seek the mandate of the constituents.

According to him, some people were taking credit for the construction of the Kanjarga Community Day Senior High School even though they were never involved in the processes leading to its construction; neither did they provide resources for the maintenance and re-gravelling of the Kanjarga-Fumbisi road, as well as other projects, describing the attitude of those people as shameful.

Projects

He said since becoming an MP for the area in 2009, he had lobbied for the construction of the Lavogsa, the Kalaasa and the Doninga day care centres as well as the Balerinsa, Bachonsa,Weisi,Kanjarga central, Zamsa and Kadema Gobsa school blocks under the GETFUND projects.

" I have introduced solar lighting system to primary and junior high schools to enhance teaching and health centres to enhance safe delivery of our mothers, wives and sisters."

Health

Touching on health, Mr Azong said he was instrumental in the completion of the Uasi Health Centre and making it operational, the building of the Jiningsa Health Centre, provision of beds and other medical equipment for distribution to other sub-district health centres, as well as supporting the Fumbisi Health Centre with an electricity generating plant to be used in times of power outage.

The parliamentary candidate said he had supported about four students to study medicine, one of whom is graduating this year. Others are some nursing students.

Mr Azong said comparative analysis based on education, human resource development, health, water and sanitation indicated he had done much better within his short period as an MP than those who had had 16 years to serve the people.

Incorruptible ministers

The Flag bearer of the PNC, Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama, said Azong was one of the incorruptible ministers in the NDC administration and that was why he was retained by the John Mahama administration after being appointed by Prof. John Evans Atta Mills  to serve in his administration. He asked the people to repose their confidence in him by sending him back to Parliament in November 2016.
