He cited the inability of the health sector to swiftly respond to the outbreak of celebro spinal  meningitis in the Brong Ahafo Region, which claimed some lives, and said had the health sector been responsive, it could have averted the unfortunate deaths.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra last Friday on the party’s preparation towards the presidential and parliamentary elections, Dr Mahama said his campaign was on the theme “New Beginnings, New Deal and New Force.”

Under the “New Deal,” he said, the PNC government would help farmers, especially cocoa farmers, to increase production by fair price and supply of  fertiliser while supporting rice farmers to also increase production to reduce the importation of rice by at least 50 per cent.

PNC agenda

Explaining what the PNC meant by the “New Force”, he indicated that ‘’the party would mobilise the youth to vote for their own party and President without undue influence and inducement by the two dominant parties.

According to Dr Mahama,  the party is now working on its manifesto and has, therefore, made new appointments to strengthen its campaign.

The appointments are Mr Dela Tengey, Media Coordinator; Mr Emmanuel Wilson, Communications Director and Reverend Samuel Adjei, Campaign Director.

He said the party had also set up a campaign team to focus on issues and not personalities or political parties.

He gave the assurance that the PNC was poised for a vigorous and issues-based campaign for Election 2016 and said, “the PNC’s preparation started with its congress earlier this year.”

PNC programmes

The flag bearer said the PNC had programmes to reduce unemployment, increase production and boost export of value-added goods, as well as fix the problem with the erratic power supply within 100 days if the party wins the elections.

On the Political Parties Law, Dr Mahama said the PNC has always complied with the law and explained that in this era of virtual offices, it was not necessary for parties to have offices in two thirds of the constituencies.
