PPP opens nominations

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) will open its nomination for the 2016 Presidential race Wednesday, December 2, 2015 and close on December 31, 2015.

All members in good standing are, therefore, invited to pick up nomination forms to contest for the position in the upcoming 2016 Elections.

A statement signed by the National Secretary of the PPP, Mr Murtala Mohammed, said the party had also set January 13 to 27 for the 2016 vetting process.

According to the statement, the election of the party’s Flagbearer will take place on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at all the 275 Constituencies in the country and the Presidential candidate so elected will be confirmed at the Party’s Fourth Anniversary National Convention to be held in Accra on Saturday, February 27, 2016.

Meanwhile, the National Committee has approved a fee of GH¢10,000 to pick a Presidential nomination form while filing of the form will attract a fee of GH¢30,000 per candidate. 

Women and physically handicapped prospective candidates will be offered a 50 per cent rebate.

Further rules of engagement with regards to the campaign will be communicated to the presidential aspirants when they pick their forms at the Party’s National Headquarters, the statement said.

Many of the 275 constituencies have elected their Parliamentary Candidates to contest the 2016 General Elections, and the statement advised those who have not done so are encouraged to complete the process by December 31, 2015 under the supervision of their regional executives.

The Party wished every candidate good luck and hope for a clean campaign during their primary.

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional leadership of the PPP has begun its regional market tour, with the first stop being at Madina market.

Led by the Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organiser, Madam Koiwah Koi-Larbi, the market regional tour is expected to last till December 31, 2015, with the goal of visiting at least one market per constituency.

The purpose of the tour is to rekindle and awaken the loyalty of members of the party, generate interest and recruit potential new members (traders), as well as communicate the party’s policies with emphasis on education and job creation.

The Madina Constituency chairman of the PPP, Mr K. Baafi, Constituency Women’s Organiser, Madam Vivian Tetteh, also a trader, the regional executives consisting of regional women’s organiser, organiser, vice chairman and the 2012 parliamentary candidate, Madam Jessica Gold (aka Adjoa Ghana), mingled and interacted with the traders on the need for change and to vote for “Progressive Change”.
