President Akufo-Addo credits Bawumia for vision behind Agenda 111 hospitals

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his pivotal role in the creation of the Agenda 111 hospital project, which aims to address the shortage of medical facilities across Ghana.

Speaking during a visit to the Northern Region last Tuesday, President Akufo-Addo shared that the idea for the ambitious health infrastructure initiative originated with Dr. Bawumia during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Vice President had brought to his attention a concerning discovery: 88 of Ghana's 260 districts lacked district hospitals.

"This is something extremely important for the history books of this country," the President remarked. "At the height of the pandemic, late 2020 or early 2021, Dr. Bawumia came to my office without an appointment, as he often does, and informed me that his research team found that 88 districts had no hospitals. When I heard this, my heart jumped."

Upon further investigation, President Akufo-Addo revealed that the actual number of districts without hospitals was 101. This, combined with the need for new regional hospitals and psychiatric facilities, laid the foundation for Agenda 111, which aims to construct hospitals in underserved districts and regions across the country.

The President commended Dr. Bawumia’s forward-thinking and dedication to national progress, emphasizing that his Vice President consistently works toward the development of the nation. "This is the sort of man you entrust power to," he stated, as the audience applauded.
