Take practical steps to protect nation’s peace - NCCE
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on Ghanaians to take practical steps to protect the peace of the country.
The Central Regional Director of the NCCE Mr Nicholas Boateng said there would be no peace if the actions of the people promoted violence.
He was speaking at an all churches prayer meeting for peace at the Jubilee Park in Cape Coast last Friday.
It was organised by the Ghana Evangelical Committee in collaboration with the Council of Churches in Cape Coast.
Christians should pray for the peace and prosperity of the nation in the forthcoming election, he said.
Mr Boateng noted that all other countries that had experience civil conflicts had prayed but observed that these countries failed to translate the prayers into peaceful behaviours.
Mr Boateng said the peace or otherwise of the country depended on Ghanaians and not any country, adding that no amount of donor support could buy a nation’s peace if the citizens themselves were not peace-seeking.
“It doesn’t matter how much any donor country spends to ensure peace, we must ourselves want peace to have peace.”
Decorum and Decency
He said all must be decorous before, during and after the election.
“There is no need to drink and misbehave at a polling station on the day of election. And we must ensure moderate jubilations,” he advised.
In a sermon, the Bishop of the Central Regional Council of the Lighthouse Chapel International, Bishop Jake Godwyll said nations needed leaders who would uphold the rule of law for a more prosperous nation.
Pray for Builders
He said Ghana needed leaders who would lead the nation to rebuild things which had been destroyed and to galvanise the people for growth and development.
“We need leaders who love the nation, build it and also have respect for God.”
He urged all to continue to pray to God for the peace of the nation.
In an address, the Central Regional Police Commander, ACP Kwame Tachie Poku warned that anyone who would foment violence before, during and after the election would not be spared.
