He said the region would continue to witness more progress under his government.

According to him, his frequent working visits to the region exhibited his love for the people and his desire to develop the region.

He was addressing a durbar at Ve Golokuati after inspecting progress of work on the Eastern Corridor road.

Eastern Corridor

The President said the government was committed to completing the road considered to be the heartbeat of the region to boost the local economy and enhance the living standard of the people.

“If you look at the work we have done in the region, from electricity to water, roads, CHPS compounds, tertiary institutions, it confirms that the region is having a fair share of the national cake.

“The region is not only my World Bank, it is my IMF so never will I point to the Volta region with my left hand because it is my home,” he added.

New ferry

He disclosed that a new ferry had been procured to operate from the Afram Plains through Kpando to Agordeke to make life easier for travellers.

The President said the issue of unemployment was also being addressed as the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) had been tasked to employ 100,000 young people by the end of the year.

A similar durbar was held at Todome Kpalime in the South Dayi District where some workers of the Volta Star Textile Limited showed up to make demands for their outstanding salaries to be paid.

Advice

The President explained that an amount of GH¢6.1 million meant for the recapitalisation of the factory could not be used in paying all their outstanding salaries as the workers were demanding while the company collapsed.

He asked the workers to reason with management for some part of their salaries to be paid while the company resumed work to pay the remaining salaries.

Documentary

The Volta Regional Minister, Ms Helen Adwoa Ntoso said a documentary on completed and ongoing projects in the region would be shown in all the districts to showcase the achievements of the government over the past three years.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kwadwo Gyapong Kudjoe, said the operation one million gap votes was on course because the region acknowledged the work of the NDC and, therefore, was not perturbed about the number of times the NPP campaigned in the region.

Chiefs

The Paramount Chief of the Logba Traditional Area, Togbui Dabrah VI, on behalf of the Council of Paramount Chiefs in the Afadzato South District, admitted that the district had seen major infrastructure development under President Mahama.

He commended the government for its good work but appealed for the completion of the stretch of road from Hohoe to Kpeve before the elections.

The Paramount Chief of the Kpalime Traditional Area, Togbui Kwesi Wiah, called on the government to rehabilitate the Kpeve headworks to enable it to supply water to communities in the South Dayi District.
