We cannot afford to disappoint Ghanaians - Asiedu Nketiah on NDCs Election 2024 win

The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called for restrained and responsible celebrations following John Dramani Mahama’s re-election as Ghana’s President.

Speaking after the Electoral Commission declared Mahama as President-Elect on December 9, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah emphasised the weight of responsibility now placed on the party to deliver on its campaign promises and steer the country toward recovery.

“Let me advise that we should be modest in our celebrations,” he stated. “I can almost feel the weight of responsibility on our shoulders. Ghanaians have given us this mandate to accomplish the task of national reconstruction. We cannot afford to disappoint them.”

Focus on national reconciliation and progress

The NDC Chairman underscored that the victory was not just for the NDC but for all Ghanaians who had entrusted the party with their hopes and aspirations.

He highlighted the urgency of transitioning from celebration to planning, saying, “This is a pivotal moment for our nation. The people have entrusted us with their hopes and aspirations, and it is our duty to honour that trust by working diligently to rescue Ghana.”

He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to fostering national unity and inclusiveness, urging party members to focus on the shared mission of rebuilding the nation.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah called on the NDC leadership and supporters to approach their mandate with humility, diligence, and accountability. “Nobody should have to remind us of the enormity of this responsibility. The task ahead requires us to be focused and resolute. Ghanaians have suffered enough, and we owe it to them to restore their faith in leadership,” he said.

He urged party members to redirect their energy toward fulfilling the party’s vision for national development under Mahama’s leadership. “In the coming weeks, let us curtail our celebrations and begin planning seriously how to rescue our dear country. This is not a moment for complacency but for action,” he stressed.
