"We, the Movement for Alhaji Huudu Yahaya (MAHYAH), a group made up of co-ordinating forces in 15 constituencies of the Upper East Region, wish to register our displeasure about some lies being peddled to delegates by some individuals that Alhaji Huudu Yahaya has voluntarily bowed out of the chairmanship race due to persuasions by some stalwarts of the party".

According to the spokesperson of the group, Mr Yaw Asiadi, some people were peddling falsehood and tainting the image of Alhaji Huudu Yahaya.

"We are also told that some people were holding themselves as agents of the state mandated to notify all delegates to vote in a particular direction for certain candidates".

Those lies, he said, were based on the conviction that Alhaji Yahaya was the obvious choice of the delegates, hence the move to run him down.

He said they were not surprised that Alhaji Yahaya had become a target, because he had laid for himself an enviable track record as a charismatic, humble, visionary and a great organiser during whose reign as General Secretary of the NDC, the party won the general elections hands down in 1992 and 1996.
