Yolanda wins Young Writers Contest

The contest was organised by the INK IT Foundation in partnership with the Esther Ocloo Memorial Foundation (EOMF), Kingdom Books and Stationery, Ama Ata Aidoo Centre for Creative Writing, the Botswana Consulate, among others.

Matthew Amevor of the St Maurice R/C JHS came second while Yvonne Pearl Anyetei of the La Presbyterian/Emmanaus JHS placed third.


 Yolanda received GH¢1000, Matthew had GH¢600, while Yvonne was given GH¢400. They also received products from the partners of the contest. Their cash prizes were sponsored by the EOMF.

 
All participants, including five non-scoring students, were given certificates of participation and consolation prizes.


Their school libraries also received dictionaries and novels.


The INK IT Foundation is a non governmental organisation (NGO) which has the aim of assisting schoolchildren to write and speak good English and also harness their talents.


 The topic for the essay was “Describe the inspiration of Dr Mrs Esther Ocloo, her achievements and how they have motivated you to make an impact in your society.”


A representative from the Botswana Consulate in Ghana, Mr Thomas Okyere, said to develop Ghana young people needed to keep reading and writing.


 He admonished the students to cultivate the habit of writing as that would help them in the future.
In an interview with the Junior Graphic, Yolanda Nana Yaa Kwakye expressed her excitement and urged her peers to read more so they could become critical thinkers and ask questions.


Twelve students from 12 schools under the La Dade Kotopon Education Directorate participated in the contest.
