Commodore: CAS ruling will affect Ghana football

The Chief Executive Officer of Accra Great Olympics, Mr Oloboi Commodore, believes the much-awaited CAS ruling of the case between Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer and the Ghana Football Football (GFA) would affect the running of football in the country.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Mr Commodore said if the ruling goes in favour of the GFA, it would imply that it took the right decision to disqualify Palmer from the GFA elections held last October. In that case, he explained, the GFA could ask Palmer to pay 10 per cent of the transfer fee to Hungarian side, Ferencvarosi, in respect of the transfer of Joseph Paintsil from Tema Youth in 2017 as was used against him during his vetting.

On the other hand, he stated that if the verdict goes in favour of Palmer, he expected three things to happen: compensation to be awarded to him, a fresh election to right the wrong done him, and CAS calling for the appeal filed by Palmer against his disqualification to be heard once again.

"Even if the decision goes each other’s way, it would be in the interest of Ghana football for peace to prevail, and the principle of fair play and human rights would be served," he pointed out.

The veteran football administrator was confident CAS would do a good job to save Ghana football from running into chaos as the matter had lingered on for the past eight months.

According to him he was confident CAS would not give a ruling that would have an adverse effect on the country but rather help the course of Ghana football.

CAS postponed the original ruling date from July 17 to August 4 at the last minute.

However, expectations from both camps are very high as they await the final ruling from CAS to determine their fate tomorrow.

It has taken Palmer and the GFA several months to litigate at CAS, as the latter seeks justice over his disqualification from the GFA presidential election which was eventually won by Kurt
