GHALCA boss happy with President’s Cup success
The Executive Committee of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) yesterday held an emergency meeting to deliberate on the issues of post-President’s Cup tournament.
Though officials of the committee were tight-lipped on details of the meeting, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Ali Raji, hinted that issues such as cost involved in the organisation of the event, sponsorship and the publicity of the tournament were some of the main issues discussed.
The President’s Cup, which is played on Republic Day each year, is to honour the sitting President and this year, the competition received some international touch following the invitation of Enugu Rangers of Nigeria and TP Mazembe from DR Congo.
He was pleased with patronage of this year’s competition which, he noted, realised higher proceeds compared to the previous year and hinted that four per cent would be donated to an orphanage of the President’s choice.
He was particularly glad for the exposure the competition had given to the local players who played two-time African champions TP Mazembe, and added that it was a great experience for the Ghanaian players.
While showing appreciation to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, and his team for their contribution towards the succesful hosting of the tournament, he also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for honouring the competition.
He again thanked the numerous sponsors, including Voltic Natural Mineral Water, VVIP Transport and Accra Brewery, for their support.
