Lizzy Football Club for Gothia Cup

For the first time in many years, Ghana will be represented by the Lizzy Football Club at the annual Gothia World Youth Cup in Gothenberg, Sweden, from July 14 to 20.

The Under-12 and Under-13 teams of the Lizzy Football Club that will represent the nation in the competition are set to depart from Accra on Friday, to the Oskar Fredriks School in Sweden, where they are scheduled to lodge.

It is the 39th edition of the tournament which brings together talents worldwide to have fun, share ideas and study the game among themselves.

According to the Team Ghana leader, Nana Agyemang, the dual sex tournament is an age specific competition involving the 12 to 19.

He said over 285 teams from more than 165 countries would engage in the beautiful game for the ultimate trophy, medals, plaques, souvenirs and undisclosed mouth-watering prizes at stake.

Nana Agyemang told the Daily Graphic that the Lizzy Football Club — a subsidiary of Lizzy Sports Complex — was selected for participation after competitive matches played against other neighbouring countries and the rigorous training regimen of the team.

The Under-12 team will play its first match on Monday, against Djurgardens IF of Sweden in the Swede city of Ruddalen.

Other teams in the group are V. Frolunda IF of Sweden and Chicago Soccer Stars of USA.

In the Under-13 category, Ghana will lock horns with Kullavgens BK of Sweden and Elite Southern Counties of the United Kingdom, both on Monday.

Other teams in the group are Ojersjo IF of Sweden and WRY also of Sweden.

Nana Agyemang appealed to corporate entities to support the team prior to their departure to help raise the flag of Ghana high in Sweden.
