Ghana ready for Congo Brazaville in CHAN group C encounter

Ghana’s local Black Stars will this afternoon begin  their hunt for the ultimate in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) when they lock horns with their Congo Brazzaville opponents in their Group C opening match at the Cape Town Stadium in South Africa.

The local Black Stars have no choice but to qualify in their group which has the likes of Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia and Libya to contend with before they can hope to proceed to the next stage of the competition.

Even though the players are themselves hungry for success, a lot will also depend on the technical team led by Coach Maxwell Konadu who is expected to ensure that the boys get it right tactically.

With the WAFU crown under their belt and a great history behind them, particularly in the maiden tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire in 2009 where they missed the trophy narrowly, the current generation must have something to draw inspiration from.

Of course there the ill-fated campaign of 2011 still haunts the team and that is largely the reason why there seems to be a wave of pessimism surrrounding the build-up of the team to this afternoon’s game.

Indeed the current generation hopes to erase the sad memories of the poor show in Sudan and make history for themselves and the country.

Coach Maxwell Konadu and his creme of players  from Ghana’s  Premier League such as  Stephen Adams, Godfred Saka, Seidu Bancy, Michael Akuffo, Abeiku Ainoson, Joshua Tijani and Yahaya Mohammed have no choice but to win convincingly against the Congo Brazzaville to be in pole position for qualification.

With history beckoning the Stars, their first match promises nothing but fireworks at 3 pm today.
