Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan grabbed the match winner as Al Ain got their AFC Champions League 2014 campaign off to a positive start with a 2-1 victory over Qatari visitors Lekhwiya in their opening Group C fixture on Wednesday.

Al Ain had been shot into the driving seat by Diaky Ibrahim in the 12th minute but Vladimir Weiss cancelled the deficit before the interval.

The Black Stars captain wowed the home fans after he had been reached by Ahmed Barman and lashed a rising shot past onrushing Eisa to make it 2-1 for the Boss.

Al Ain will be joined at the top of Group C by Tractorazi Tabriz after Al Ittihad fell to a 1-0 defeat in Iran in the group’s other fixture.
