Hearts hold All Stars in Wa

Accra Hearts of Oak  yesterday produced a gritty game to hold Premier League leaders, Wa All Stars, to a 1-1 draw in their encounter in Wa.

Man-of-the-match Kofi Yeboah scored with a crisp grounder in the 59th minute as the home side finally found a way past the resolute defence of the Phobians.

But veteran striker, Sam Yeboah, hit back for Hearts when he connected Richard Akrofi’s freekick in the 73rd minute.

It was not exactly the great spectacle expected of a potential league decider but while All Stars’ display seemed to justify their sudden title prospects, Hearts responded with a performance inspired by their name and status.

But All Stars would rue the many chances they squandered when they held Hearts by the scruff of their neck in the grudge battle that saw apparently the biggest crowd at the Wa park this season.

Indeed, striker Paul Davies Asare  came out as the most guilty when he misdirected a clear chance after he was put in a close firing range 19 minutes after kick off.

But Kofi Yeboah’s ground bullet which fetched the opener – his fifth goal in five games — sparked the stadium into life as All Stars sensed the real possibility of an unlikely league triumph, perhaps in the shape of Leicester’s feat in England last season.

The big hopes were scuttled, even if temporary, when Sam Yeboah struck.
