Kotoko host Mamelodi Sundowns

After their poor showing last weekend which cost them the MTN FA Cup, Kumasi Asante Kotoko are hoping to redeem their image by beating South African premier league side, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, when the two clash in a friendly match at the Baba Yara Stadium Sunday.

Kotoko’s dream of winning a domestic double in the just-ended season was thwarted by less-fancied Medeama SC in the FA Cup final at the Accra Sports Stadium, but the Porcupine Warriors are hoping to put last week’s setback behind them and reorganise.

Coach Dramani is convinced that his side is better than their opponents, having clinched the ultimate in the Premier league, compared to Sundowns who finished ninth in the South African Premier Soccer League.

Sundowns, who are on a pre-season tour of the country, held Accra Hearts of Oak to a 1-1 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium last Wednesday and now head to the Garden City to play as guests of Kotoko.

Pitso Mosimane, coach of the South African side, nicknamed The Brazilians, says holding Hearts to a 1-1 draw could be an indication that Kotoko will fall on their home turf.

Sundowns, who are featuring new signings, including Zambia goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and Ghanaian defender Rashid Sumaila, will play their final training match against Ebusua Dwarfs at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast on Wednesday, July 24.
