The former Ashantigold striker had earlier in the day passed his medicals ahead of the signing of a two-year deal with the Tunisian FA Cup champions.

The 25-year-old Shafiu arrived in Tunisia last Sunday to sign for US Monastir who are the CAF Confederation Cup representatives and the third force in Tunisia currently.

Target of clubs

The 2019 WAFU Cup Golden Boot winner has been on the radar of many clubs, both locally and abroad, including local giants, Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

Shafiu saw deals to Romanian side CFR Cluj, a Spanish side and Greek Super League outfit Apollon Smirnis, failing to materialise due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Shafiu is the sixth signing at the high-flying Tunisian club, following the acquisition of Amer El Amrani, Youssef Al-Abdali, Roger Aholo, Khalifah and Al-Hadi Khalifah.

Shafiu rose to prominence at the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal, where he hit the first ever hat-trick against Cote d’Ivoire in the semi-finals and netted four times to finish as the tournament's top scorer, aside impressive outings with Ashantigold in the CAF Confederation Cup last year.
