Who joins BA United?

By the close of day on Sunday, bottom-rooted Brong Ahafo United will officially bid farewell to the First Capital Premier League again alongside two out of five probable relegation candidates - Great Olympics, New Edubiase United and Heart of Lions.

Close to them in the dogfight are clubs like Kotoko, WAFA, Medeama, Bechem United and Hasaacas, who seem to have a window of opportunity to escape per the standings.

Unlike the ‘Apostles of Power Soccer’, who secured their Division One League permit even before the end of the first round, the other two slots can only be determined on the final day in what appears to be an emotional photo-finish.

Added to the suspense-filled drama is the ever-changing boardroom wrestling for points between giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, with the former threatening to place an injunction on the last round of matches till the determination of their appeal in respect of the fielding of Obed Owusu against the Phobians in their second round league match.

As the two giants sort themselves out in the battle for the three valuable points, Ashantigold will be cooling off all the way from Obuasi to the Accra Stadium for a memorable coronation as the new league champions in an ‘exhibition’ game against Olympics.

As hosts, Olympics look more motivated to win the day though the three points might not be enough to guarantee their continuous stay in the premiership.

But the hottest match of the day will be the life or death battle between New Edubiase United and Heart of Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

The permutations suggest that New Edubiase United, now on 39 points, need a vital home win at all cost to ensure a narrow escape, while Lions could concretise their stay with at least a draw, thus promising nothing but fireworks in that duel.

In Kumasi, embattled Kotoko will surely bag the mamixum points against Aduana Stars to finish out of trouble, in the same way Medeama will capitalise on territorial advantage to beat visiting Inter Allies at Tarkwa.

At Sogakope, exciting WAFA can also not afford to drop a point at home against Hearts of Oak, just as Bechem United are assured of a much-needed victory against condemned B.A. United to avoid demotion.

Interestingly, Hasaacas’ visit to Dansoman is expected to be no different as they need to top-up their 39 points with a crucial away win against third-placed Liberty Professionals.

At the Berekum Golden City Park, Chelsea and All Stars could battle to a draw in their close contest.
