At a brief ceremony yesterday at the Ministry for Youth and Sports in Accra, the Managing Director of GLICO General, Mr Andrew Acheampong-Kyei, noted that the cover would protect the entire contingent of 41 members against all forms of accidents on and off the pitch.
“It is basically a 24-hour cover until the team returns to the shores of Ghana. We believe this will go a long way in boosting the confidence of the team in playing fully and confidently, knowing that they have a trusted partner in GLICO,” he stated.
Financial package
In addition, Mr Acheampong-Kyei said his outfit would support the team with an undisclosed sum towards their preparation and coordination at the tournament.
“We wish to assure the Ministry and the entire nation that GLICO will continue to support sports in Ghana as its contribution to elevate Ghana sports to higher levels,” he stated.
The sector Minister, Mr Mustapha Ussif, for his part, reposed confidence in the Black Stars to deliver at the AFCON.
He noted that President Akufo-Addo was solidly behind the Black Stars and had provided them with all they needed to ensure they bring the cup home.
“Let me say that in expressing my gratitude to you and GLICO and, on behalf of the Black Stars, this gesture will strengthen their resolve to put up their utmost best and give their best performance at the AFCON,” he stated.
He, therefore, called on all Ghanaians to throw their weight behind the Black Stars to bring the cup home.
