5-Star Liberty cut Aduana to size

Liberty Professionals secured one of their biggest home victories after walloping defending champions Aduana Stars 5-2 to book their first home win in a 10th week fixture of the Ghana Premier League staged at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman in Accra.

The scientific soccer lads, as they are popularly referred to by soccer fans, had to come back twice from behind before running rout on their opponents in the second half of the game.

The visitors opened fire on their opponents from the blast of the whistle and laid siege for an early goal.

This paid off in the 11th minute and dreaded attacker Yahaya Mohammed headed in for the opener through a corner kick.

The homesters responded immediately during an offensive in the 20th minute when winger Mubarak Alhassan tapped in a curling from Stanley Aniagyei Ampaw for the equaliser.

Yahaya Mohammed increased his tally in the 26th when he latched onto a float from his half into the Liberty area.

With the Liberty defenders caught ball watching, a lurking Yahaya emerged from the back of the defenders and slided the ball into the back of the net for an advantage to the visitors.

A minute later Liberty responded again when Aduana’s Fataw Abdulman brought Abraham Wayo down in the box.

The resultant penalty saw attacker Elvis Kyei-Baffour beautifully convert to restore parity.

Back from recess, the visitors rested at their half and appeared content on holding on with the draw, but Liberty had other ideas and these showed subsequently.

In the 54th minute, during an offensive by the homesters, striker Mubarak Alhassan received the ball a few metres away from the Aduana area.

Against logic, he unleashed a powerful low drive, 25 yards away, that beat goalkeeper Joseph Addo and found its way into the bottom corner of the net.

Liberty became charged afterwards and brought on substitute Nuhu Abass and Mohammed Adams.

The former paid for the opportunity given him by the coach when he latched onto the ball in the Aduana area, dribbled past a marker and side-footed into the far left corner of the net to make the scoreline 4-2.

Liberty sealed the fate of their guests in the 91st minute when Kyei Baffour was played through in the area and he curled a low drive into the far right of the back of the net.
