The Bukom Boxing Arena is set for a night of fireworks on September 27 as Ghana’s superflyweight prodigy, Michael Abban (11-1-0, 7 KOs), locks horns with Nigeria’s unbeaten Ogunyanju Sikiru in a 10-round battle for the Commonwealth Youth title.
The much-anticipated showdown, sanctioned by the Commonwealth Boxing Council, will see one of the rising stars of West African boxing crowned champion.
For 22-year-old Abban, the bout represents the biggest opportunity of his career. The mercurial southpaw, whose only defeat remains a disputed decision, is now under the tutelage of celebrated trainer Ebenezer “Coach Killer” Adjei at the Black Panthers Gym and fights for the first time under the Landmark Boxing Promotions banner.
Abban, who features on the undercard of Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe’s homecoming fight, has also thrown down the gauntlet to his Nigerian rival.
“I’m ready to go the full distance to beat him, but if the knockout shows up, I’ll grab it. One thing’s for sure, I’ll end his unbeaten record,” Abban vowed.
His trainer is also brimming with confidence ahead of the fight. “Michael is in the best shape of his life. He’s ready for 10 rounds of war, and if a knockout comes, we’ll take it.”
The clash promises to be a fiery contest of pride and power, with Abban’s technical brilliance and punching strength set against Sikiru’s flawless record.
Victory would not only earn the Ghanaian the coveted belt but also make him the first boxer this year to capture an international title on home soil, a milestone moment for Ghanaian boxing.
