Ghana’s rising boxing star, Theophilus Kpakpo “Theo Lopez” Allotey, will headline the inaugural Osagyefo Fight Night when he faces Argentina’s Facundo David Garcia in a WBA Super Flyweight final eliminator at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
Presented by Obra Sports in celebration of the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the September 19 event could provide Allotey with a pathway to a world championship opportunity if he wins on home soil.
The 24-year-old Wisdom Boxing Gym product has enjoyed a remarkable rise since turning professional in July 2024 after winning bronze at the 2023 African Games in Accra.
He has since captured five titles — Ghana national, UBO Africa, WBO Africa, WBO Global and WBA Africa Gold — while breaking into the Ring Magazine Top 10 and earning rankings with the WBC, WBA and WBO.
Garcia, meanwhile, brings a record of six wins, two losses and two draws with three knockouts, and will be fighting outside Argentina for the second successive time after his first nine bouts were staged at home.
The September 19 card will also usher in a new chapter for Samuel “Ring Warrior” Takyi, Ghana’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallist, who has signed a multi-year promotional deal with Legacy Rise Sports, the same company promoting Allotey.
Takyi, who turned professional in 2022 under former world champion Ike “Bazooka” Quartey, will make his Legacy Rise debut against Botswana’s Steven Bagwasi.
His professional journey has been interrupted by limited activity and changes in representation, including a previous association with UK-based world championship-winning manager Michael Amoo-Bediako.
Takyi also returned to amateur boxing after turning professional and won gold at the 2023 African Games in Accra, adding to his historic Olympic bronze.
Legacy Rise Sports Head of Boxing, Thaddeus Akwasi Adomakoh, said the company had seen enormous potential in Takyi.
“We believe in working with the very best, and Samuel Takyi is undoubtedly one of Ghana’s finest boxing talents,” he told the Graphic Sports.
“Our ambition is to help him fulfil that potential and make history by producing a world champion from Ghana on the international stage,” Mr Adomakoh said.
With Allotey fighting for a potential world-title shot and Takyi beginning a fresh professional chapter, the Osagyefo Fight Night promises a significant night for Ghanaian boxing.
