Ampem Darkoa stage comeback to sink Hasaacas Ladies: Claim 5th Women’s Premier League title
Ampem Darkoa Ladies produced a stirring second-half comeback to defeat Hasaacas Ladies 2-1 and lift the 2025/26 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title at the Swedru Sports Stadium, drawing level with their rivals on a record five championships.
Trailing at the break, the Northern Zone champions flipped the script with a dominant display after the interval, underlining their growing authority in Ghanaian women’s football and sealing a return to the continental stage in next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League.
Hasaacas, champions of the Southern Zone and boasting the league’s tightest defence, struck first in the 37th minute.
Abiba Issah rose smartly to glance home a well-delivered cross from Grace Ntsiful, giving the Sekondi-based side a deserved lead after a cagey opening period in which both teams prioritised a defensive shape.
But the momentum shifted decisively after the restart.
Ampem Darkoa emerged with renewed intensity, taking control of possession and pinning Hasaacas deep inside their own half. Their pressure told in the 57th minute when Priscilla Okyere capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire home the equaliser from close range.
With the game finely poised, Ampem Darkoa continued to press, their superior attacking threat — the most potent in the league this season — beginning to stretch Hasaacas’ previously resolute backline.
The breakthrough arrived seven minutes before time, and amid a crowded penalty area, Gloria Adomako Ameaa reacted quickest to bundle home the winner, completing a dramatic turnaround and sparking wild celebrations among the Kumasi-based side.
The victory not only crowns Ampem Darkoa champions once again, but also sees them equal Hasaacas Ladies’ tally of five league titles, adding to their previous triumphs in 2016, 2017, 2021/22 and 2022/23.
Their dominance this season was further reflected in the individual honours, with head coach William Afoakwa named Coach of the Season, while Patience Ajegipina Zakaria clinched the Top Scorer award.
Elsewhere, Belinda Nyarko of Epiphany Warriors was adjudged Player of the Season, Angelina Yeboah of Fosu Royal Ladies picked up the Discovery of the Season accolade, and Hasaacas’ Grace Buoadu Banwaa was named Goalkeeper of the Season.
For Ampem Darkoa, however, the headline achievement was delivered on the pitch — a composed, clinical and ultimately decisive second-half performance that confirmed their status as a dominant force in the domestic game.
