FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifiers: Maidens thrash Togo to cruise into next round
Ghana's Black Maidens delivered a dominant performance to defeat Togo U-17 women’s national team 6-0, sealing an emphatic 8-0 aggregate victory to advance to the next round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The Maidens, who took a 2-0 lead from the first leg into last Saturday's match, wasted no time asserting their authority, taking the lead in the 7th minute through Juliana Gyekyewaa, who finished confidently to set the tone for the game.
The advantage was doubled just minutes later when Zeinab Shani found the back of the net in the 14th minute with a composed effort.
Attacking prowess
Coach Nana Adarkwa’s side continued the relentless attacking display and Sekinatu Amadu added a third in the 20th minute to put the tie firmly beyond Togo’s reach.
Ghana’s dominance persisted and Shani grabbed her second of the match in the 43rd minute to give the hosts a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime.
Priscilla Mensah extended the lead in the 77th minute with a clinical finish, while captain Seidatu Wahab capped off a perfect performance with a stoppage-time goal to complete the 6-0 rout.
The Maidens next face Liberia whose opponents, Libya, withdrew from the CAF qualifying competition.
