Anas exposé: Apology and resignation not admission of guilt - Nyantakyi insists

The former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi insists his resignation from the role is not an admission of his guilt for allegedly engaging in corrupt practices as claimed in the investigative journalism documentary.

The said documentary titled #Number12 was produced by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and captured the GFA boss soliciting for bribes with the names of President Akufo-Addo, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia as well as some ministers of state.

The documentary was screened on June 6 and 7 in Accra and the fallout resulted in the CAF Vice President and FIFA Council member tendering in his resignation to the GFA General Secretary, Isaac Addo.

In the resignation letter signed by Nyantakyi, he issues an unreserved apology to all Ghanaians for the disappointment his indiscretion caused them but insists that it was not an admission of any wrongdoing.

“I wish to apologise to my family, work colleagues, friends, associates and the people of Ghana for the disappointment my indiscretion has caused them. This is by no means an admission of wrongdoing for issues on the video”, Mr. Nyantakyi said in a statement sent to the GFA General Secretary on Friday.

According to Nyantakyi, he was deceived by the undercover journalists which he described as "scammers", he also apologised to President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia and the Ministers of state for associating them with the private conversations on the video.

“After a meeting of the Executive Committee this afternoon I decided to resign as President of the Ghana Football Association”.

“It stemmed out of the controversies generated by investigative report of Tiger Eye PI. In the said report I committed a series of errors of indiscretion. I gravely associated the highest office of the land –the presidency- with private discussions I had with “Scammers” who deceived me into thinking they were genuine persons interested in investing in our country.

“I hereby apologise unreservedly to the father of the Nation, H.E. Nana Akufo Addo, H.E. the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Hon. Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State for indiscretion in associating them with the private conversations on the video.
